PLUMBERS AND GURGLERS
How many Plumbers have gone down
the gurgler in this financial meltdown?
Is your plumbing business one on the edge right now or can you drag out your electric
eel and unplug the blockage? I hope you can because I doubt it’s over yet in spite of what the financial
analysts say. Don’t forget, they are the ones who got us into this financial mess in the first
place.
Can you imagine the uproar there would have been if all the plumbers around
the world stuffed up and drains blocked up everywhere?
Well, isn’t that very similar to what has happened to our financial sector?
If you are a plumber who wakes up at 0400 and starts to worry about paying your bills,
just know that you are not “Robinson Crusoe”. All you can do is the right thing by each and every customer,
quote fairly and honestly and that means not cutting the profit on jobs too low just to get a job.
I had a plumber friend in Darwin Australia who worked on the
principle that if he was going to go broke he’d prefer to do it sitting under a palm tree. Good philosophy.
He had the right business mindset and I suggest it could also be one you need to take notice of if you are
quoting/estimating jobs too low.
As a Plumber you have done your time and got your trade certificate. It wasn’t given
to you because you had to earn it. You now have the right to make a fair and honest living from it despite
the down turn in the economic climate.
Sure, there’s no fat in any of the jobs any more but in honesty, I’m sure that there
have been times in the past that you have put enough fat into jobs that you didn’t really want to take on,
right? That’s the nature of the game. Ok, so now it’s pay-back time and you now work and quote much more
realistically. And it shouldn’t stop you from putting a profit margin in there for your business. If you
don’t, then you may well be the next plumber to go down the gurgler.
If you are a person in need of a Plumber then be his mate and check your local yellow
pages and give their business a call today.
There has never been a better time to get the attention of a local plumber and if you want to keep his business “local” it
will stop their plumbing business from going down the gurgler.
